We helped Spank design these new dirt drop Flare 25 bars. A bunch of our recommendations made the cut, and we’re stoked on the result. The things we recommended against still turned out well, and we wouldn’t change ‘em even if we could. These are the strongest dirt drops out there, aside from the Nitto Super Flare 31.8. They passed super rigorous off-road standards. 99% of the other bars on the market are not tested to mountain bike standards, they are tested to gravel bike standards, which is a much lower strength threshold. Spank was able to make these strong and decently light by using a 31.8 bar diameter all across the top of the bar. That makes the bar much stiffer and stronger than a typical road bar. It also means the flats are bigger diameter, which sort of forces you to keep a looser grip on the bar. Bigger bars also spread the pressure on your ulnar nerve out, kinda like big fat markers are easier to hold than tiny little pens. Same basic idea. 25 degrees of flare. Short reach, around 70mm. Shallow drop. These bars work well for technical off road riding, touring, dirt roads, or even road riding. We’ve used them for all of the above and dig them. Spank fills the bars with a structural foam, which they say damps vibrations (probably does, but so do your tires) and adds a bit of strength.

The bars are bar end shifter compatible. They have graphics that aid in set up.

Not ideal for riders who have small hands (size small gloves or smaller). The tops are too big in diameter. I (James) wear medium gloves and they feel great, even with gel under the tape. This is the best medium flare bar on the market, and arguably the best all-around-do-a-bit-of-everything dirt drop on the market as well.
